Sunni and Shiite

Any true Sunni knows that the first four caliphs - Mohammed's successors - rightfully took his place as the leaders of Muslims and the heirs of the four caliphs as legitimate religious leaders. The Shiite's believe that only the heirs of the fourth caliph, Ali, are the legitimate successors of Mohammed and that there has been no legitimate religious figure since the Twelfth Imam disappeared in 931. The tension between the Shiite and the Sunni in has grown over the years and it is only due to the diplomatic corps that nothing has happened, yet.
