What happens
Recently, dignitaries from Venice have approached us with a lucrative proposal. According to their engineering plans and measurements of the land between the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, it may be possible to dig a canal long and wide enough to facilitate maritime travel between the two bodies of water. In exchange for their efforts, we would give them sovereignty over the lands surrounding the new canal as a sign of friendship, cooperation, and continued prosperity.
