Way of Chonindo

The changes in society after the turbulent times of the Sengoku Jidai are quite obvious. The previous constant struggles across all Japan have finally subsided, and now we enjoy a somewhat stable internal peace which allows a more relaxed life for the common people. As a result, they are flocking to the quickly growing cities, and thus our previously rural population is giving rise to the Chonin (townspeople), and with that their own way of life called Chonindo. Their aspiration towards the samurai class and their values of bushido, together with a keen interest in the development of arts and science have resulted in a distinct new mass culture, focused on a great quality of workmanship. Poetry, performances, puppet-theaters, paintings, and all other forms of art are seeing great expansions.
