What happens
Andrea Doria belonged to a branch of the old de Auria family. He lost his noble parents at an early age and became a soldier of fortune, serving first the Pope and then the French. He became famous as a naval commander, waging war on the Turks and the Barbary pirates. He was behind the rise of the Genoese republic after years of occupation by French and Imperial forces.
