What happens
The expulsion of the Jews from Spain has left a great many destitute and in need of a new home. A large number of these refugees have arrived in Selanik, hoping that tales of Ottoman tolerance are not exaggerated. Far from being a burden to the state, the Spanish Jews count among their number many skilled laborers and experienced merchants who are all too eager to set up shop in the thriving port city.
