The Muxe in Court

In Zapotec society, there are three defined genders; male, female, and muxe. The muxe are a group of people who were determined as being male at birth, but have since come to acknowledge themselves as female. They wear traditional women’s clothing, identify with female titles, and usually abandon their birth name in favor of something more conventionally feminine.\n\nUsually, the muxe are of little concern to the our ruler, however our our nation our nation has confessed that she is a member of the muxe community and has entered court introducing herself as our nation. As a woman, she is ineligible to continue serving beside the our ruler, but her unique talents make her a difficult asset to let go.\n\nSome high ranking officials at court are suggesting that the talents of our nation are evidence that we are missing out on an endless trove of talent by forbidding women from serving at court and our our ruler would be well-advised to revise the legal requirements for becoming a royal advisor.
