What happens
The plague broke out in January 1656 when a Spanish soldier arrived from Sardinia, and admitted to the Annunziata Hospital. The doctor who identified the problem was imprisoned by the government for spreading the news, but the plague spread like a wildfire. Within six months half the population of the City of Naples had died.
