What happens
Prior to 1430, the lands of Songhai were our subjects. In 1430, the our nation lost control over the rich city Gao due to the problems and struggles in the homeland, and the city and its territory around it went rogue. They have been taken over by the Sonni dynasty and declared themselves a realm of their own, rivalling our power.\nBut that is now a thing of the past. Gao is again under our control and a majority of the ones who identify themselves as 'Songhai' are our subjects yet again.
