The Changing Role of the Mercenaries

Ever since the days of the Roman Empire, kings and generals relied on mercenaries for their wars, and our nation is no exception to this. But as time went on, the governments of Europe established the concept of standing armies; military forces which are recruited from their own people who can be called to arms in times of need. Our advisors are divided. On the one hand the usage of a standing army guarentees that we are using professional and loyal soldiers for the defense of our ambitions. On the other hand, we would have to be ready to sacrifice good our lives for our goals.\nIn the end it is up to the our ruler to make the final decision.
