The Chishti Order and the Sultans of Bengal

The Sufi Chishti order has always had a special relationship with our royal dynasty. The order has been able to rely on our patronage and we have relied on its support in return. Less than a generation ago Nur Qutb-i ‘Alam, leader of the Chishti in Bengal ensured our return to power as the Sultanate was threatened by a Hindu usurper.\nAs the sad news of Nur Qutb-i ‘Alam's passing now reach us the time has come to reaffirm this alliance between worldly and spiritual power. On the other hand this might also be a good opportunity to distance the throne from the Chishti order, an organization which has grown a bit too powerful for comfort.
