Quick Overview

This command toggles the Zombie army debug mode on or off. When this mode is on, armies that lose a battle will not be instantly wiped out but will instead enter a shattered retreat.

When it's turned off, defeated armies will be instantaneously wiped out without the chance of a shattered retreat.

In-Depth Description

The zombie command in Europa Universalis IV (EU4) is a debug command that is related to the behavior of armies in the game. When this command is on, which is the default state, armies that lose a battle do not get immediately wiped off or annihilated. Instead, they go into a shattered retreat state.

In a shattered retreat, the defeated army will automatically flee to a friendly territory, avoiding battles along the way until they reach a safe destination or their morale improves. This allows the army to recover and potentially regroup for another battle, instead of being completely destroyed.

Turning the zombie command off changes this. Armies that lose a battle while this command is off will be instantly destroyed or 'stackwiped' without a chance to retreat and recover.

This command can be helpful in debugging or testing various army interactions and battle scenarios.

For example, it allows players to see what would happen if armies were instantly annihilated upon defeat, or to compare the game dynamics when armies can or cannot retreat.

How to Open the Command Console

In EU4, cheats are executed from the command console, a text box that you type commands into.

To open the command console press the ~(tilde) key, which is typically located under ESC (escape).

If your keyboard does not have that key, or pressing ~ does not work, try the following keys:

  • ~
  • SHIFT + 2
  • SHIFT + 3
  • ALT + 2 + 1

Type your command into the console, and then press ENTER .
