Quick Overview

The msg command in Europa Universalis IV is used to toggle all in-game message popups on or off.

This means that when the command is active, you won't see any in-game messages appearing on your screen.

Conversely, if you decide to turn it off by using the command again, the in-game message popups will reappear.

In-Depth Description

The msg command in Europa Universalis IV (EU4) is used to toggle all the game's messaging popups on and off.

This command goes into effect immediately upon entering it into the console and does not require any additional parameters or inputs to function.

These popups are often used to notify you about significant events in your game. These events can range from successful sieges and won or lost battles to notifications about peace deals and diplomatic changes.

Therefore, if you want to keep abreast of the game's goings-on, it might be better to have these popups activated.

However there may be too many pop-ups that they might become rather distracting or irritating, especially for more experienced players who know what they're doing and want to focus on their strategy.

By using the msg command, you can control this flow of information. If you find the popups tedious or distracting, you can use this command to disable them, clearing your game of these intrusive notifications.

Conversely, if you want to be notified about every single event, you can use 'msg' to activate dynamic popup messages.

How to Open the Command Console

In EU4, cheats are executed from the command console, a text box that you type commands into.

To open the command console press the ~(tilde) key, which is typically located under ESC (escape).

If your keyboard does not have that key, or pressing ~ does not work, try the following keys:

  • ~
  • SHIFT + 2
  • SHIFT + 3
  • ALT + 2 + 1

Type your command into the console, and then press ENTER .
