This command adds the specified amount of innovativeness to the specified country.

innovativeness [Amount] [Country Tag]



The amount of Innovativeness you want to add. If it is not specified, a default of 100 will be added.


Optional. The country tag of the country you wish to add Innovativeness. If none is specified, it will be added to your country.

The innovativeness command in Europa Universalis IV is used to increase the level of Innovativeness of your nation. Innovativeness is a mechanic in the game that rewards players for being the first to tech up or complete ideas, and has the potential to give long-term bonuses for the nation.

Upon typing innovativeness into the console, your nation's Innovativeness score will be increased by 100 by default if no value is specified, but you can also choose to add a specific amount by typing that number after 'innovativeness', for example innovativeness 50 would add 50 to your Innovativeness.

Innovativeness provides a series of beneficial effects such as reducing power cost and increasing institution embracement speed, which benefits your progression in the game. This mechanic rewards nations that stay ahead in technology and ideas which generally reflects a country making innovative progress and advancements within the game world.

How to Open the Command Console

In EU4, cheats are executed from the command console, a text box that you type commands into.

To open the command console press the ~(tilde) key, which is typically located under ESC (escape).

If your keyboard does not have that key, or pressing ~ does not work, try the following keys:

  • ~
  • SHIFT + 2
  • SHIFT + 3
  • ALT + 2 + 1
