Quick Overview

This command in Europa Universalis IV allows you to instantly kill the current ruler of a specified country. When you use this command, the current ruling monarch of the country you've specified will die, causing a new ruler to take their place.

In-Depth Description

The die command in Europa Universalis IV (EU4) causes the current ruler of the specified country to die. The command can be extremely beneficial in various strategic scenarios where the player wants to change the leadership or political dynamics of their own or another nation.

The kill command functions by instantly ending the life of the current ruler, triggering a succession. This can lead to new opportunities or challenges. For instance, if the current ruler has low stats (like low administrative, diplomatic, or military power), this command can be a way of speeding things up if you need better stats to implement certain actions or policies.

For example, with the kill command, you can get a better-suited ruler to overcome challenges, such as managing unrest or building relationships with other countries. Or in situations where having a regency council (due to the ruler's heir being too young) is preferable over a low-stat ruler, this command can be used.

However, it's important to note that killing off your ruler could potentially plunge your country into a state of instability, especially if there's no clear-cut heir to the throne, which could result in a personal union under another country or a succession war.

The command is simply typed as die in the console command box, use it without specifying a country tag, the command will apply to the country you're playing as. If you want to kill the ruler of a different country, you would use the command die [country tag].

How to Open the Command Console

If your keyboard does not have that key, or pressing ~ does not work, try the following keys:
