Quick Overview

The colonize command in Europa Universalis IV is used to colonize and core an unsettled province while also gaining some prestige.

Despite the province preserving its original culture and religion, it will be under your control as the new owner.

This command is not only applicable to individual provinces, but can also be used to colonize entire colonial regions.

In-Depth Description

The colonize command in Europa Universalis IV is a console command that instantly colonizes and cores a specified, unsettled province.

The term 'core' in EU4 refers to a province that is considered a rightful part of a country. By providing the ID of the province as an argument alongside this command, any province can be colonized, without the traditional in-game waiting times and process associated with colonization.

Upon using this command, the province retains its original culture and religion. So, even if an English player uses the command for a territory in Africa, the culture and religion of the colonized area remains African.

This is interesting from a gameplay perspective as it adds a layer of realism to how culture and religion might be preserved in expansions of empires.

Another unique feature of this command is its ability to be used on settled provinces which already have an owner. When used in this way, the province switches ownership to the player but keeps any previous owner's core.

Lastly, the colonize command can also be used to colonize entire colonial regions at once, for instance, colonial_brazil or colonial_canada. This allows players to save time and greatly expand their empire, with suitable provinces grouped together for convenience.
