In-Depth Description

The add_colonist command in Europa Universalis IV (EU4) allows you to add an extra colonist to a particular country of your choice or to your own. Colonists are essential in EU4 as they are especially useful in helping expand your empire by founding new cities in unclaimed territories.

When you use this command, an additional colonist is added to the country's total colonist pool. The colonist count can be used to speed up the colonization of unsettled provinces.

This command can be particularly useful when you want to accelerate the process of colonization. It is often used in situations where you want to quickly expand your empire or when you're racing against other nations to claim territories.

To use the command, you simply input add_colonist followed by the country tag of the nation you want the colonist to be added to in the console. For instance, add_colonist SPA would add a colonist to Spain. If you do not put any country tag after the command, the game will interpret it as a command for the current country you're playing.

How to Open the Command Console

In EU4, cheats are executed from the command console, a text box that you type commands into.

To open the command console press the ~(tilde) key, which is typically located under ESC (escape).

If your keyboard does not have that key, or pressing ~ does not work, try the following keys:

  • ~
  • SHIFT + 2
  • SHIFT + 3
  • ALT + 2 + 1

Type your command into the console, and then press ENTER .
